Folding Tables: What Makes One Last

Wood Folding Table — 71 inch Real-Wood Event Surface

Folding tables live a harder life than fixed ones. They are moved, stacked, leaned on and stored badly, and they fail at the joints.

The mechanism is the product

The top surface rarely fails first. The leg frame, the lock and the hinge do. A table that folds and unfolds smoothly when new but already feels loose is telling you something.

Locks that positively engage

A leg that clicks into a detent is far better than one held by friction alone. Friction fittings wear, and a leg that folds under load is a serious failure.

Edges take the damage

Edge banding protects the core from moisture and knocks. On tables that get carried, damaged edges are the beginning of the end for the top.

Store them upright

Stacked flat with weight on top, tops bow over time. On edge in a rack is better for both the top and the frame.
